# The roman fortification
On the _Île de la Cité_ were the first walls of Paris.
Built between 308 and 360.
The wester part, was the palace.
# The medieval fortification
Little is known.
It was probably built after the Vinkings’ siege from 885 to 887.

The largest remainer can be seen near the _collège Charlemagne_.

At some point, the right bank of Paris had two walls.
# Mur des fermiers généraux
This wall was not a defensive, and its only function was to tax any goods
entering Paris.
It was highly impopular, and might be one of the triggers of the French
revolution.
